About The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled
Senior Engineer, Enterprise Database Services to join our Group Technology team at RHB Banking Group. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the health, performance, and availability of the Group’s databases. You’ll manage troubleshooting, patching, performance tuning, and automation efforts to ensure stability and resiliency across all environments.
What You Will Be Doing
- Perform troubleshooting on all errors and warning messages found in database logs and OEM alerts by raising service requests with database vendors when necessary to keep databases online without interruption.
- Review and apply all required RDBMS patches according to vendor releases to ensure databases remain secure, stable, and available.
- Analyze and manage RDBMS errors with proper logging and follow-up until resolution, including deployment of necessary fixes.
- Collect and analyze production database storage data, chart growth patterns, and provide monthly capacity reports.
- Review and diagnose database performance issues, conduct root cause analysis, and propose improvements to enhance overall application performance.
- Develop, update, and enhance scripts to automate daily repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency.
- Perform approved application software installations and upgrades to ensure systems remain updated and aligned with business requirements.
- Implement and maintain a robust disaster recovery model that meets defined RPO and RTO objectives.
- Perform database backups to ensure data recovery meets business requirements in the event of a disaster.
- Conduct regular analysis of database statistics and performance metrics to prevent degradation or resource contention.
- Monitor and add physical storage when thresholds are reached to prevent outages.
- Manage capacity planning and configuration management for database assets in compliance with ISO/IEC 20000 (ITSM) standards.
- Ensure all database activities comply with ITIL, Internal Audit requirements, and internal system evaluation criteria.
- Build and maintain Oracle Engineered Systems including Exadata Storage Cell, InfiniBand Switch, ZDLRA catalog, and HyperConverged Infrastructure for MS SQL databases.
- Prepare documentation, procedures, and operational manuals to support effective planning and standardization.
- Provide 24×7 on-call DBA support for Group RDBMS on a rotation or need basis to address any system anomalies.
What We’re Looking For
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- Proven experience managing Oracle and MS SQL databases in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Strong understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and backup/recovery strategies.
- Experience with Exadata, ZDLRA, and other Oracle Engineered Systems.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (Shell, Python, or PowerShell) for automation.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes, ISO/IEC 20000 standards, and audit compliance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and provide 24×7 support on a rotation basis.
