ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including ambulating, moving and turning patients, assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices, bathing, making patient beds.

The Critical Care Technician is responsible for performing as an effective and professional member of the care team providing a safe and comfortable environment for patients. They are responsible for providing and assisting with the care of critically ill, high acuity patients, utilizing technical skills and performing other assigned duties under the direction of an RN, MD, PA or NP in Critical Care. The Technician will assist with data collection to facilitate the delivery of delegated nursing and medical care. Perform a variety of technical procedures with physician direction. The position requires the ability to make decisions consistent with the Gundersen Health System policies. Independent study is required
Major Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates professional accountability by maintaining a level of knowledge, confidentiality and skills defined in the CBO/P, related to current and changing trends in patient care in order to deliver optimal, cost-effective care, aligning with the mission and vision of Gundersen Health System. Participates in technician/staff meetings, ICE house cadaver labs and education.
2. Assist patients in the areas of nutrition, elimination, comfort, mobility and safety. Transports and transfers patients within the medical complex using appropriate equipment and utilizing safety precautions as indicated by the patient’s health status. Lift and ambulate patients using appropriate guidelines.
3. Demonstrates dependability, organizational skills and effective use of time by setting priorities and utilizing critical thinking to complete work within established time frames in accordance with unit CBO/P and unit guidelines.
4. Effectively communicate and document relevant patient information across the continuum of care in order to achieve optimal and accurate medical record documentation while maintaining patient confidentiality.
5. Demonstrates effective communication skills while providing patient care. Effectively communicates with health care team members about observed changes in patient condition or data collected.
6. Obtain and setup patient room prior to patient arrival, ensuring equipment in present and functioning
7. Adjusts work patterns within the shift to accommodate changing patient and unit needs based on patient condition. Transports patients accompanied by the RN to other units for tests and procedures.
8. Utilize Policies and Procedures to guide practice in Central Monitoring. Responsible for identifying and communicating changes in person or via telephone to assigned patient care staff. Provides education to other staff about telemetry equipment. Monitors and informs healthcare team members about visualization of patient rhythm and occurring trends. Acts as a resource to ensure proper telemetry patch placement and troubleshooting of telemetry monitoring equipment. Evaluation and elevation of concerns.
9. Performs diagnostic ECG testing. Supports education to peers related to ECG testing. Demonstrates competency in interpreting, analyzing and documentation of EKG rhythm strips.
10. Responsible for collection of blood specimens for laboratory testing via arterial line draws and finger stick. Follows established procedures to accurately identify and label all specimens. Completion of the collection process via electronic system. Monitors and performs quality control testing on analytical equipment to ensure accurate results.
11. Demonstrates competency and satisfactory performance of sterile procedures at a high level of expertise including critical patients in emergent situations. Obtaining supplies, preparing patient and responsible for handing supplies to the provider during central line insertion utilizing sterile technique .
12. Participates in quality improvement activities to continuously improve patient care, patient outcomes and department operations. Evaluates and provides feedback based on use and experience
13. Incorporates the patient/family’s readiness to learn when reinforcing teaching initiated by RN, MD, PA or NP, in order to achieve optimal, age specific and individualized care.
14. Responsibly for orientation of new employees, acts as a resource person to other staff members.
15. Participates with the healthcare team during resuscitation of complex patients. Demonstrate and maintain competency in application of resuscitation devices.
16. Demonstrate and maintain proficiency with foley catheter insertion utilizing sterile technique. Maintain competency in care of the catheter and proper documentation of output.
17. Performs other job-related responsibilities effectively and efficiently utilizing teamwork in high stress situations.
18. Provide support to the patient and family throughout the bereavement process, including obtaining patient handprints and transportation of deceased patients to the morgue.
19. Maintains a clean work environment by disinfecting and cleaning equipment and removal of waste and linen from patient care areas. Restocks medical supplies in patient care areas to ensure availability during emergent situations.

Seeking a highly skilled, experienced APP to join our growing cardiothoracic critical care team. This is a 24/7 service therefore this position requires days, nights, weekends and holidays in a rotation with the team.
In this position you will be responsible for examining, diagnosing and treating patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and thoracic diseases under the direction of the attending physician. Our APPs play an integral role in the multidisciplinary care team by coordinating discussion, communication, and implementation of care plans with various consulting physician services, nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, nutritional support, and other ancillary teams. In addition to these skills, you will be expected to have obtained competency in common ICU procedures, including but not limited to endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas collection, arterial catheter line placement, central venous catheter line placement, temporary dialysis catheter line placement, transvenous pacemaker line placement, and pulmonary artery catheter line placement.
Our cardiothoracic critical care providers are also the rapid response team for the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.
Our APPs are expected to manage endotracheal tubes, tracheostomy tubes, ventilators, pacemakers, sedation (MAC and Deep), interpret ABGs and VBGs as well as complex acid/base derangements, manage fluid balance goals with diuretics, hemodialysis, and CRRT, vasopressors and inotropes, XRAYS, and laboratory investigations.
Knowledge of the following advanced mechanical support devices is also expected: IABP, IMPELLA (2.5, CP, 5.0, 5.5, RP), CENTRIMAG, and ECMO (VV, VA).
