◆Organizational profile The Eiken Foundation of Japan is an incorporated public-interest foundation established in 1963 for the purpose of promoting and improving practical English. Eiken produces and administers a variety of English proficiency tests including the EIKEN Test Practical English Proficiency, established more than 50 years ago, and supports the lifelong learning of test takers, from small children to the elderly, by developing examinations to suit a broad range of learning stages and purposes. In addition, Eiken supports English-language teaching and learning by offering distance-learning courses, providing teaching materials useful for both self-study and classroom work, and sponsoring seminars for teachers. In recent years, Eiken has expanded opportunities to take the EIKEN test by introducing the EIKEN S-CBT, a computer-based test offered throughout Japan that measures the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
