Working Hours: Monday - Friday (830am - 5pm), Saturday (830am - 1pm) - alternate Saturday arrangements may be requested upon confirmation

Job Summary

The Maintenance / Instrument Technician / or Assistant Engineer is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of all facility and production equipment systems, including HVAC (chiller systems), electrical, mechanical, and plumbing infrastructure. This role supports continuous manufacturing operations by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, and coordinating repair activities to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective repairs on HVAC systems (including chiller systems), electrical systems (including 3-phase), and mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment operates at optimal performance to support uninterrupted manufacturing processes.

2. Troubleshooting & Breakdown Response

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and rectify equipment faults and system breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Implement effective corrective actions to minimize production downtime and prevent recurrence.

3. Monitoring & Inspection

  • Conduct routine inspections and facility walkthroughs to identify abnormalities such as unusual noise, vibration, heat, or leaks.
  • Monitor equipment performance and record relevant operational data for analysis and improvement.

4. Contractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Supervise and coordinate external contractors for specialized maintenance, repairs, calibration, and facility improvement works.
  • Ensure all contractor activities comply with company safety and operational standards.

5. Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to and enforce all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO).
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., GMP where applicable).

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, logs, and checklists.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and ensure timely replenishment of critical components.
  • Prepare reports on maintenance activities, breakdowns, and improvement initiatives.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • Support initiatives to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and maintenance practices.
  • Provide input on process improvements, equipment upgrades, and cost-saving measures.

8. Ad-hoc Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties and ad-hoc tasks as assigned by management from time to time, in line with operational requirements.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in facility or equipment maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC (chiller systems), electrical (3-phase), and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in English/Bahasa, Mandarin a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Physically fit and able to:
  • Lift up to 25kg
  • Climb ladders
  • Work in confined or elevated spaces

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience in GMP-regulated or manufacturing environments
  • Basic knowledge of utilities systems (RO water, compressed air, etc.)
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems and documentation practices 
  • Able to communicate and work efficiently and coordinate with operations team and management
