Solar Wireman

Primary function:

The Solar Wireman is a licensed electrical professional responsible for carrying out all electrical wiring, connections, testing, and commissioning of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The role ensures that solar installations comply with electrical codes, safety standards, and utility/grid requirements.

Responsibilities:

1. Perform AC and DC wiring for solar PV systems in accordance with approved drawings and electrical codes.
2. Install and connect inverters, isolators, combiner boxes, meters, and distribution boards.
3. Carry out earthing/grounding and lightning protection works.
4. Conduct electrical testing, insulation resistance tests, and system commissioning.
5. Ensure compliance with utility, regulatory, and safety requirements.
6. Identify and troubleshoot electrical faults and system abnormalities.
7. Coordinate with installers and supervisors during installation and testing.
8. Ensure tools and electrical equipment are used safely and correctly.
9. Support O&M activities, including scheduled solar panel cleaning and routine system inspections.

Limit of authority:

1. Perform all licensed electrical works related to solar PV systems in accordance with approved drawings, electrical codes, and regulations.
2. Make on-site electrical decisions necessary to complete wiring, termination, testing, and commissioning safely.
3. Conduct electrical testing, fault finding, and corrective actions within approved scope.
4. Verify electrical compliance prior to system energization.
5. Stop work immediately if unsafe electrical conditions are identified.

Qualification requirements:

1. Valid Wireman/Electrician license or certification (as required by local authority).
2. Strong knowledge of solar PV electrical systems and grid interconnection.
3. Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams and wiring drawings.
4. Experience with electrical testing instruments.
5. Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Working experience requirement:

1. Previous experience in solar PV installation or renewable energy projects.
2. Familiarity with local utility and authority approval processes.
