About The Role
We are seeking experienced software engineers at the tech lead level who possess a strong understanding of high-quality public GitHub repositories and can make meaningful contributions to this project. Ideal candidates will have experience working with well-maintained, widely-used repositories that have garnered over 5000 stars. This role involves hands-on software engineering tasks, including automating development environments, triaging issues, and evaluating test coverage and code quality. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in analyzing open-source projects, enhancing test frameworks, and collaborating with research teams to improve Large Language Model (LLM) performance in bug-fixing scenarios. Additionally, there are opportunities to lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong emphasis on Python development. Proficiency with Git for version control, Docker for containerization, and experience setting up and managing software pipelines are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to understand and navigate complex codebases, modify projects locally, and run tests effectively. Prior contributions to open-source projects or experience evaluating open-source repositories will be considered a significant advantage. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are required.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and triage issues reported across trending open-source libraries on GitHub, identifying critical bugs and feature requests.
- Set up and configure code repositories, including containerizing environments using Docker and establishing development workflows.
- Evaluate unit test coverage and quality, providing feedback and suggestions for improvements.
- Modify, run, and debug codebases locally to assess the performance of LLMs in bug-fixing scenarios, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Collaborate closely with researchers and developers to design experiments, identify challenging repositories, and develop solutions that enhance LLM capabilities.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and innovation.
- Document processes, contribute to technical reports, and communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
