About The Role
BNP Paribas is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tech-Lead to join its Global Markets team in Bangalore. This pivotal role involves spearheading the migration and modernization of legacy systems from Scala-based applications to a more efficient architecture utilizing Python and Oracle SQL. As a Tech-Lead, you will be responsible for designing and implementing high-performance data solutions that align with the company's strategic roadmap, particularly the COMPASS 2.0 and NEXT initiatives scheduled through 2026-27. Your leadership will be instrumental in refactoring existing systems to improve maintainability and performance, while also mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams across multiple geographies. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the technological evolution of BNP Paribas’s global data platforms, ensuring they meet future business demands and technological standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background with at least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in software development or data engineering is required, with demonstrated expertise in both technical and leadership capacities. Proficiency in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL is essential, including skills in query optimization, indexing, and stored procedures. Advanced knowledge of Python, especially with data manipulation libraries such as Pandas and NumPy, is crucial for developing and maintaining data pipelines. Experience with refactoring legacy Scala applications into modern Python/SQL services is highly desirable. Candidates should also have proven experience leading small teams, mentoring engineers, and working within Agile/Scrum environments. Strong communication skills, problem-solving ability, and a proactive approach are vital for success in this role. Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional or AWS/Azure Data Engineer are advantageous, as are additional skills in data warehousing, BI tools, and machine learning frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze complex business requirements, translating them into scalable and efficient technical solutions.
- Design comprehensive end-to-end data architectures and workflows that integrate seamlessly with existing systems and platforms.
- Architect, develop, and optimize high-throughput data pipelines using Python (Pandas, NumPy) and Oracle SQL/PL-SQL.
- Refactor and modernize legacy Scala applications into maintainable Python and SQL services to improve system robustness and scalability.
- Collect, transform, and analyze data from multiple sources to generate key metrics related to client contributions and revenue streams.
- Enhance overall system architecture to improve service quality, reliability, and user experience for business stakeholders.
- Prioritize workload effectively, balancing immediate operational needs with strategic long-term development goals.
- Proactively troubleshoot technical issues, implement preventive measures, and ensure system stability.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders across geographies.
- Collaborate with global teams in Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong to ensure data integrity and strategic alignment.
- Explore and evaluate emerging technologies such as data warehousing solutions, AI/Agentic tools, BI platforms, and ML libraries to enhance platform capabilities.
