Full Stack Developer - Life Sciences
Day rate contract role.
Role Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Tech Lead to lead the technical delivery of a modern Life Sciences platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership position combining full-stack development, solution design, engineering leadership and regulated software delivery.
The successful candidate will lead a mid-sized engineering team and act as the key technical point of contact throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, compliant and successfully delivered into production.
The technology environment includes Python, React and AWS, with a strong emphasis on CI/CD, code quality and delivery within a regulated Life Sciences environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of the platform from requirements and design through development, testing and production.
- Translate business requirements into clear technical designs and development tasks.
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical direction and resolving blockers.
- Define and maintain coding standards, design patterns and architectural best practices.
- Review code and technical designs to ensure quality, performance, security and maintainability.
- Oversee full-stack development across React frontend and Python backend technologies.
- Design and support cloud solutions using AWS services including Lambda, SNS, SQS, EC2, ECS, Fargate and API Gateway.
- Manage and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development workflows.
- Work closely with QA teams to define testing requirements and resolve defects.
- Ensure technical solutions meet relevant Life Sciences regulatory and data integrity requirements.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, traceability and audit trails throughout the development lifecycle.
- Coordinate release planning, production deployments and post-release support.
- Identify technical risks and escalate architecture, infrastructure or compliance issues where required.
- Participate in sprint planning, retrospectives and other Agile ceremonies.
- Communicate technical progress, risks and completed features to business and technical stakeholders.
Required Experience
- Strong commercial experience in full-stack software development.
- Strong development experience with Python and React.
- Extensive experience developing and deploying applications within AWS.
- Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, SNS, SQS, EC2, ECS, Fargate and API Gateway.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including database design and optimisation.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows and deployment automation.
- Minimum 3+ years' experience operating as a Tech Lead, Lead Engineer or Senior Software Engineer with technical leadership responsibilities.
- Proven experience delivering at least one significant software project from initial design through to production.
- Experience leading developers, conducting code reviews and providing technical mentorship.
- Strong Agile software delivery experience.
- Experience working within Life Sciences, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices or another highly regulated software environment.
- Understanding of regulated software development and concepts such as GxP, FDA requirements, 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity and audit trails.
Desirable Experience
- Data Engineering experience.
- Experience with AWS Glue.
- Docker and containerisation experience.
- Experience delivering validated software within pharmaceutical or Life Sciences organisations.
- Experience with security scanning, change control and regulated release processes.
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworks.
