Cactos manufactures, operates and finances a fleet of distributed battery energy storage units. Our typical customers are small and medium enterprises in various businesses, such as logistics, agriculture, real estate, and EV charging. Main customer benefits of our system include energy cost reduction, reserve power, and improved utilization of renewable energy. Energy storage is imperative to the future of energy, but it is only as effective as its operation: our unique software is the foundation of our business.
The cloud software stack runs on AWS, with Kubernetes (AWS EKS) and PostgreSQL (Tiger Data) forming the backbone of the infrastructure. Our servers orchestrate our fleet of battery storage units to run in unison as a massive aggregated virtual battery storage. Each storage unit’s operations are optimized to ensure maximized value for each customer. As a part of the operation we collect and process time series data in real time, and employ machine learning for predicting site energy usage and calculating optimal running schedules for each energy storage unit. Server-side code is written in Python (Pandas, Flask, …), and the frontend is developed in TypeScript (React).
The energy storage units are locally controlled by edge computers running an embedded Linux with our proprietary control software, written in Rust and Python. Our proprietary Battery Management System ensures safe charging and discharging, with embedded ARM processors managing real-time hardware-level control.
The Cactos product development team is relatively small, but together we have decades of experience in a wide range of fields, such as mechanical and electrical engineering, battery systems, embedded systems, cloud infrastructure, software development and data science. Our entire product, starting from how the battery packs are arranged and connected, all the way to what the customer sees in their web browser, is designed and built in-house. We entrust all our team members with significant responsibilities and keep the red tape to a minimum.
We are now looking for a new Software Engineer to join our cloud development team. Instead of laying out an exhaustive list of requirements, we believe the description above provides a sufficient overview of our tech stack to capture your interest. You will work with a seasoned software team with experience from companies like Apple, Smartly, Vaisala, and Eniram. Beyond experience with specific technologies, we value the right attitude and the lessons learned from past challenges. Our office is located in Vallila, Helsinki, and we work in a hybrid mode.
