About the role

The Analytics Engineer main responsibilities will be to support business with design, development and automation of the Greenpeace data pipeline and services. You will ensure that our data warehouse is intact and our Civis analytics platform would be maintained and optimized for business to utilise the various insights. Another aspect would ensure our data request pipeline would be delivered timely and be a sparring partner or a soundboard for the business when data is going to be utilised. The Analytics Engineer will work closely with the CAI team and collaborate with business.

The Analytics Engineer is also responsible for the delivery of routine reports, automatised and ad-hoc data extractions and imports between our CRM system and Data warehouse, analysis, and administration and training in basic use of our analytics and reporting tools such as Civis and Tableau.

Main Responsibilities

Data models and transformation:

• Ensure that our data models are up to date and serve the operational needs, this in collaboration with digital analyst and data engineer
• Write and optimize SQL transformations for data cleaning, aggregation, joining, and business logic
• Ensure that our data warehouse is continuously developed and has data that is needed for the operational and analytic needs.
• Contribute to the development of an organisation wide data architecture framework, standards and principles including modelling, metadata, security, reference data and master data.
• Lead the development of organisational data flows to move data securely across departments with a clear overview of any data changes in transition and management of data flows required.
• Provide expert input and strategy advice to teams and projects at Greenpeace Nordic
• Develop and configure data models
• Optimize data model performance
• Play a key role in the development of data systems and data architecture at Greenpeace Nordic and across the Greenpeace Nordic. Contribute to development, review & refinement of the Nordic Data Strategy

Data maintenance:

• Regularly check data ingestion and transformation jobs for failures, delays, or performance degradation.
• Investigate and fix discrepancies, missing values, duplicates, or other data errors identified by automated tests or user reports.
• Identify and implement strategies for more efficient data storage (e.g., partitioning, clustering, archiving) and processing (e.g., query optimization, materialization strategies).
• Apply incremental changes to existing data models to reflect business rule adjustments or new data attributes.
• Identify and manage the retirement of obsolete data assets, ensuring smooth transitions for downstream consumers.
• Ensure re-runs of data transformations for historical corrections, backfills, or specific analytical needs.
• Improve code readability, maintainability, and efficiency over time.
• Verify that data is updated on schedule and readily accessible for analytical and operational consumption.
• Keep data dictionaries, model descriptions, and lineage information current with changes.
• Periodically review and adjust permissions to sensitive data within the analytical environment.

Analytic Engineering Solution Delivery

• Solve novel and complex software and data system design challenges.
• Help ensure data projects results cover the key aspects of excellent data management including, but not limited to, user interfaces, tiered security and access control, data curation, data deduplication, movement and automation.
• Ensure solutions follow legislation, standards, policies and practices in every day’s work.
• Research and develop Data Catalogue through automated catalogue templates
• Collaborate with the System Architect & Developer (SAD) to ensure all technical documentation is kept up to date

Support on pipelines maintenance and documentation

• Responsible for providing support and maintenance to the system ensuring adherence to professional and high quality coding standards.
• Responsible for high quality documentation on existing data engineering modules including architecture diagrams for non-technical audience

Data extraction and presentation

• Create, test and implement standard queries which users can run at their discretion
• Create, test and run ad-hoc queries to provide accurate data as requested
• Create, test and run ad-hoc queries to ensure the integrity of the database
• Liaise with fundraising staff to determine data extraction requirements for appeals and other initiatives such as telemarketing and to extract the data required.
• Develop tools to manipulate data where CRM and other system tools are insufficient

Other

• Occasional duties may involve working out of normal hours.
• Occasional travel is required to attend face to face meetings.
• Participate in weekly office and other meetings in the department or all Nordic staff meetings.
• Up to 20% of your time may be spent outside the tasks described in this job description, as prescribed by your line manager

Qualifications (Knowledge and skills needed in this position)

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Marketing, Business or other associated field and /or equivalent work experience.
• At least 3 years of relevant working with large databases
• At least 2 years’ experience working with marketing, fundraising or financial data
• Good understanding of the Analytics Engineering principles and at least one data transformation tool (dbt, SQLmesh)
• Advanced SQL and Python skills
• Skills for managing multiple projects, working to a timeline and with sensitive information
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, deal with stressful situations and meet deadlines.
• Excellent English, other Nordic languages an advantage.
