About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Web Developer with expertise in Java to join our dynamic development team at the Bayerisches Landesamt für Statistik in Fürth. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of interactive online formats and to enhance the visibility of the statistical services provided by the Federal and State statistical offices. The role is pivotal in presenting official statistics as reliable sources of information, strengthening their external impact, and improving their image. A key focus will be on engaging younger audiences by promoting data competence and facilitating user-friendly interactions with maps, charts, and statistical visualizations. As a vital member of our team, you will actively shape the future of our web applications and public interfaces, ensuring they are innovative, secure, and accessible.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a relevant university degree (Bachelor/Diplom or Bachelor’s degree) in fields such as Computer Science, Media Informatics, or Business Informatics. Proven experience in Java programming, especially with frameworks like Spring Boot, is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with practical knowledge of common frameworks. Additional skills in Python and R are advantageous. Experience working with web GIS applications and integrating maps into web interfaces will be considered a plus. Familiarity with SQL databases, ORM tools like JPA or Hibernate, and knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration are desirable. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong analytical skills, creativity, initiative, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Excellent communication and organizational skills are also required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct requirements analysis in collaboration with the Product Owner and relevant Fachbereich (departmental units).
• Design interactive user interfaces, graphics, and coordinate design elements to ensure a cohesive user experience.
• Develop responsive, browser-based front-end applications that are accessible across devices.
• Implement backend functionalities, design APIs, and ensure seamless integration with front-end components.
• Engage actively in the software development lifecycle through code reviews, pair programming, and collaborative problem solving.
• Create and maintain comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure application quality and stability.
• Document technical specifications, API documentation, and onboarding guides for ease of maintenance and knowledge sharing.
• Ensure compliance with security standards and data protection regulations throughout development processes.
• Manage rollout of application updates, content changes, and perform troubleshooting, hotfixes, and performance tuning post-release.
