About The Role
We are seeking an Analyst Software Developer to join our Advanced Train Control team. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our rail network by developing innovative solutions that enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Operating in a complex, mission-critical environment, you will leverage modern engineering practices, real-time data analytics, automation, and Generative AI to support and evolve our "single pane of glass" systems management platform. Your contributions will directly impact the safe movement of trains and the overall performance of our rail network. This position offers the flexibility to be based in Calgary or Kansas City, providing an excellent opportunity to work in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment focused on technological innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
- 0 to 3 years of experience in software development or technical systems support
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, .NET, or C/C++
- Interest or exposure to Linux/Windows systems, networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, AMQP, SNMP), and data platforms (Elastic, Dynatrace, PowerBI)
- Familiarity with automation tools, scripting, and monitoring solutions
- Interest in applying AI, Machine Learning, or Generative AI to real-world problems
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn quickly in a cross-functional environment
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams
Responsibilities
- Complete cross-training with Advanced Train Control technical and operational teams, fostering strong cross-functional relationships
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Positive Train Control (PTC), Electronic Train Control (ETC), and supporting infrastructure such as radio, networking, and field systems
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications supporting real-time monitoring and management of field assets
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the "single pane of glass" systems management platform
- Support integration of current and emerging assets, including locomotives, wayside systems, and detectors
- Apply modern development practices utilizing technologies like .NET, Python, Java, C#, and cloud-based tools
- Leverage automation, analytics, and Generative AI to enhance system performance and decision-making processes
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and support mission-critical systems that impact train movement, including participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate operational needs into effective technical solutions aligned with safety and performance priorities
- Identify opportunities for tools, workflows, and system reliability improvements, contributing to best practices and continuous improvement initiatives
