About The Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Data and AI Engineer to join our Data and AI Technology (DAT) Engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting BMO's digital-first strategy by designing, developing, and maintaining data and AI products that provide actionable insights. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions. Your expertise will contribute to the continuous improvement of data pipelines, automation frameworks, and AI models, ensuring high-quality deliverables aligned with organizational standards and roadmaps. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, engage in complex data challenges, and contribute to impactful projects that drive business value. You will also participate in process improvements and support production environments to ensure seamless data operations.

Qualifications

• 2 - 5 years of relevant experience in data engineering, AI, or related fields
• IT education and/or professional certifications in data, cloud, or AI technologies
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT development and data warehousing concepts
• Proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, Python, Spark/PySpark, and Scala
• Experience with data integration tools such as SSIS, AWS Glue, and cloud storage and computing services (AWS, Azure)
• Knowledge of Hadoop, Netezza, and other big data technologies
• Experience working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets in batch and streaming environments
• Strong skills in data analysis, data modeling, data mapping, and data profiling
• Nice to have: familiarity with AI concepts, Generative AI, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-powered SDLC tools
• Understanding of technical and business environments and processes
• Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA
  
  

Responsibilities

• Participate in the planning, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and support of data and AI products
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate functional and non-functional requirements into scalable data solutions
• Provide input on technical design and ensure alignment with architectural standards and strategic roadmaps
• Accelerate development by building reusable frameworks, automation scripts, and code modules
• Identify, track, and perform regression testing on defects to ensure high-quality deliverables
• Support production environments by troubleshooting issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance delivery, deployment, and operational efficiency
