Principal tasks and responsibilities include:
- Lead and own complex, claims-related reconciliations with a focus on clearing a significant historical backlog
- Work hands-on through high-volume data sets, investigating discrepancies across claims systems, subledgers, and the general ledger
- Identify root causes of variances and drive resolution by following up with internal teams and stakeholders
- Reconcile claims payments, recoveries, adjustments, and timing differences
- Establish structure around issue tracking, aging, and remediation progress, providing clear visibility to Finance leadership
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to claims accounting
- Act as a key point of contact during year end, working directly with auditors on PBCs, inquiries, and reconciliation support
- Support bank-related activities during year end, including reconciliations, confirmations, and responding to bank inquiries
- Extract and reconcile data across multiple systems, escalating data quality, mapping, or process issues as needed
- Document reconciliation processes and help improve controls to support a smoother transition to a permanent hire
Our client:
We are hiring on behalf of our client, who is working through a significant claims reconciliation backlog and is seeking an Interim Controller to lead the cleanup and stabilization effort. This is a hands-on engagement for a senior accounting professional who can operate at a controller level while staying in the weeds to get the work done.
Qualifications and pre-requisites:
- Senior-level accounting experience with a strong focus on reconciliations and cleanup work
- Background in claims, insurance, benefits, healthcare, or other high-volume, transaction-heavy environments
- Proven experience working through complex subledger-to-GL reconciliations
- Comfortable working independently in ambiguous environments
- Experience supporting auditors and bank-related processes during year end
- Advanced Excel skills and ability to work with large data sets
- Strong investigative mindset and attention to detail
- CPA is an asset but not required
