The Opportunity

McElhanney has a new opportunity for a Structural Engineer to grow our team in Prince George, BC. Other McElhanney locations and remote work will be considered for the right individual.

You will be part of a small local team and a larger structural engineering group with over 30 members in various McElhanney offices. What You’ll Do

• Providing assessments, design, and field reviews for structural projects.
• Municipal / commercial / institutional / industrial building design using wood, steel, concrete, and masonry.
• Shallow foundation design for buildings including pre-engineered steel buildings.
• Civil structures such as retaining walls, utility structures, etc.
• Construction field reviews.
• Structural condition assessments.
• Project management of multi-disciplinary projects, including managing structural assignments locally.
• Proposal preparation and business development.
• Supervising and mentoring junior staff.
  
  
  

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum 5+ years experience with building structural design.
• Registration in good standing as a P.Eng. in British Columbia.
• Proven delivery of structural projects for public and private clients.
• Strong knowledge & experience with National and Provincial Building Codes including those for concrete (CSA A23.3), wood (CSA O86), steel (CSA S16) and masonry (CSA S304).
• Proficiency with structural engineering software, such as Mathcad, SAFE, ETABS, RISA, and Woodworks.
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal as well as a positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Strong people skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
• Project management and proposal writing experience.
• Strong organizational skills and flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel; capable of quickly learning new software programs.
• Knowledge & experience with fire protection, occupant safety and accessibility (Building Code Part 3), energy efficiency (Energy Code and ASHRAE 90.1), liquid retaining structures (ACI 350 series), aluminum (CSA S157) and bridges (CSA S6) would be an asset.
  
  
  

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $120,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
