Junior Engineering / Mechanical Technician
We are seeking a Junior Engineering / Mechanical Technician to support a fabrication shop specializing in miscellaneous steel and pipe spooling. This role serves as a key link between customers and the shop floor, providing technical support to ensure accurate fabrication, efficient production, and compliance with drawings and specifications.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, comfortable working in a shop environment, and capable of interpreting engineering and construction drawings while supporting fabrication and installation activities.
Skills, Knowledge, And Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 5 Years Of Relevant Experience
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, including the ability to organize data, create spreadsheets, and track materials or production information
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Inventor, or SolidWorks
Proven ability to read and interpret isometric and steel fabrication drawings
Understanding of quality assurance and quality control processes
Knowledge of pipe spooling, miscellaneous steel fabrication, or industrial construction practices
Strong attention to detail with accurate measurement and documentation abilities
Ability to perform material take-offs and generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) from customer drawings
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate in a dynamic shop environment
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Effective communication skills when working with engineers, supervisors, trades personnel, and suppliers
Practical experience with construction work involving boilers, piping, structural steel, tanks, vessels, and rotating or stationary equipment
Experience estimating, sketching, and interpreting drawings and specifications
Ability to create and manage schedules using relevant software
Knowledge of industrial mechanical construction and maintenance work
Ability to schedule simple projects and shutdown work
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of SpoolFab software
Experience working in a steel fabrication or pipe shop environment
Familiarity with AWS welding symbols and fabrication standards
Exposure to ASME piping codes and industrial standards
Exposure to CSA W59 standards
Key Responsibilities
Review and interpret isometric, fabrication, and construction drawings
Provide technical support to shop personnel during fabrication of pipe spools and miscellaneous steel
Assist with material take-offs and material tracking using Excel
Support drawing updates and markups using AutoCAD and SpoolFab as required
Prepare work packages for shop floor fabrication
Maintain organized documentation and production records
Promote and adhere to all shop safety procedures
Produce and track RFIs and change orders
