About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic software studio in Toronto. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and development of scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that align with our strategic business objectives. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the architectural landscape of our digital products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, security, and performance. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders, to drive technical excellence and deliver impactful solutions. Your leadership will also involve mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture, with at least 2 years of experience designing solutions in a public cloud environment such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. A bachelor’s, master’s, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required. Certifications such as TOGAF, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent are highly preferred. Candidates should have extensive experience in architecting, designing, and delivering scalable, decoupled systems in heavily regulated environments. Proven ability to engage with senior business and technical stakeholders, mentor teams, and drive strategic initiatives is essential. Strong communication skills and a comprehensive understanding of cloud architectures, security standards, and compliance requirements are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement architectural solutions that support Capital One Canada's business strategies, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities, aligning them with organizational goals.
• Create and review Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to facilitate clear communication and decision-making.
• Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring adherence to internal standards and external regulations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across various levels to promote effective technology strategies that enhance business value and foster innovation.
• Mentor, guide, and lead engineering teams in adopting best practices in architecture, design, and development processes.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and incorporate them into the enterprise architecture to maintain a competitive edge.
• Oversee the technical aspects of project delivery, ensuring solutions are aligned with architectural standards and security policies.
