About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic software studio in Toronto. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and development of scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that align with Capital One Canada's strategic objectives. You will oversee the creation of high-level architecture designs, evaluate emerging technologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping our technology landscape, promoting best practices, and mentoring team members. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of banking technology while working in a collaborative environment that values innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture, with at least 2 years dedicated to creating solutions architectures in a public cloud environment such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. A strong educational background with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields is required. Certifications such as TOGAF, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent are highly desirable. Candidates should have extensive experience in designing and delivering scalable, decoupled systems within heavily regulated environments, along with excellent communication skills capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels. Proven leadership in mentoring teams and driving architectural initiatives is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement architectural solutions that align with Capital One Canada's business goals and adhere to established architectural standards.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities to ensure strategic alignment.
• Lead the creation and review of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to guide development efforts.
• Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across various levels to promote technology strategies that enhance business value and foster innovation.
• Mentor and guide engineering teams in adopting best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
• Evaluate new and emerging technologies for potential integration into existing systems to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Support the implementation of cloud-based solutions, ensuring security, compliance, and operational excellence.
