As a Development Engineer on the Utility Specialists team, you will be fully accountable for the engineering review related to storm, sanitary, and water on all development circulations for the area, including those associated with capital projects from within the Corporation. Primary duties include:
- Accountable for engineering reviews related to storm, sanitary, and water on all development circulations including outline plans, staged master drainage plans, sanitary servicing studies, development permits, construction drawings, mechanical site servicing plans, special circulations, Construction Completion Certificate (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) for relevant water/sanitary/storm infrastructure.
- Coordinate the reviews and input from various internal partners and subject matter experts related to storm, sanitary, and water on capital circulations from internal and external customers. There will be a particular focus on transportation capital projects, drainage studies and utility circulations.
- Respond to engineering inquiries and technical issues for future servicing needs regarding storm, sanitary, and water mains from development industry (consultants, developers, and City business units).
- Investigate and respond to various internal and external inquiries, meet with internal departments, and the public as a representative of the Water Utility.
- Support process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience related to municipal design, land development, and/or utility projects.
- Knowledge of the stormwater approvals process, both municipal and provincial, is a preferred asset.
- Demonstrated abilities in the following areas: Strategic thinking, project management, negotiation, and facilitation skills; good communication and planning skills; and the ability to solve problems that are contentious in nature.
