About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to join our team in Newark, NJ. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and lakehouse architectures on Azure cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PySpark on Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse pipelines. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement data solutions that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives. Your responsibilities will include optimizing data jobs for performance and cost, ensuring data quality and governance, and supporting production environments through incident management and continuous improvement efforts. This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring three days onsite per week, providing flexibility while maintaining close collaboration with team members and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in PySpark, including DataFrames, Spark SQL, and performance tuning on Azure Databricks
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling for analytical workloads (star schema, snowflake, lakehouse patterns)
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory and Synapse pipelines for data orchestration and scheduling
  • Solid understanding of Azure storage solutions such as ADLS Gen2, and experience with file formats like Parquet and Delta Lake
  • Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git, and CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps
  • Experience operating data pipelines in production environments, including monitoring, alerting, and incident resolution
  • Ability to work collaboratively with architecture and platform teams on security, secrets management, and governance
  • Excellent documentation skills for lineage, technical design, and governance practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; relevant certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement batch and streaming data pipelines using Azure Databricks and PySpark
  • Develop and optimize Spark SQL transformations for analytics and reporting
  • Orchestrate workflows with Azure Data Factory and Synapse pipelines, integrating with Lake Storage solutions
  • Model and maintain lakehouse architectures, including Delta Lake, with attention to schema evolution and performance
  • Implement data quality checks, observability, and SLAs to ensure reliable data delivery
  • Optimize data processing jobs for cost efficiency and performance, including cluster sizing and partition strategies
  • Collaborate with architecture and platform teams on CI/CD, secrets management, and security protocols
  • Contribute to data governance, metadata management, and documentation of data lineage and technical designs
  • Support production release cycles, incident management, and continuous improvement initiatives
