Program Assistant - Summer Placement

Open Door Group (ODG), a mission driven non-profit organization serving communities across Canada, is looking for a temporary Program Assistant to join our team!

Term: 16 Weeks, May to August 2026

Location: Kamloops - Gardengate

Hours of Work: 36 Hours per week

Salary: $24.00/hour

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Open Door Group’s Gardengate Program is an innovative horticulture program that offers programming and volunteer opportunities to individuals living with addictions or mental health conditions. The partnership between the Kamloops Food Policy Council and Open Door Group has enabled this unique program to promote healthy living and life skills development through learning. Reporting to the Gardengate Program Coordinator, the Program Assistant will work in the capacity of Summer Student to facilitate the needs of the Program while supporting the theme “Growing Food, Growing Futures”.

The responsibilities of the Program Assistant will be:

• Support program participants attending Gardengate


• Coordinate annual Gardengate Community Event


• Assist staff with workshops related to healthy living and life skills development


• Support participants in achieving and completing specific garden related tasks as part of their Client Service Plan.


• Promote, identify, coordinate and deliver produce donations to individuals who would benefit from outreach services.


• Write a year-end report recording the summer activities and recommendations for next year.

Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals with disabilities.


• Experience working with individuals in facilitating “Healthy Living” and life skills development through activities such as workshops


• Experience working outdoors with gardens, horticulture etc.


• Ability to work independently.


• This position requires a satisfactory record check, which will include a vulnerable sector check.


• This position requires a satisfactory drivers abstract and a Class 5 Driver's License (vehicle not required).
