Overview

ScribeWire is seeking an experienced frontend developer to support the development of a sophisticated, browser-based, document-style editing interface, along with other frontend systems across the product.

This role is well suited to someone comfortable working on complex, state-driven user interfaces—particularly WYSIWYG or editor-like experiences—who can also contribute more broadly to dashboards, forms, and other application features as required.

You will work closely with the Director of Technology on production systems and contribute both independently and collaboratively to meet defined milestones.

About the Work

A core focus of this role is the development of an advanced, custom WYSIWYG-style interface that behaves more like a document editor than a traditional form. This involves handling structured data, rich interaction patterns, keyboard navigation, selection logic, and performance considerations.

In addition, the role includes contributing to other frontend areas of the platform, such as internal dashboards, administrative tools, and data-driven workflows. The work is varied and ongoing rather than isolated to a single component.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain complex React components
• Implement and refine custom WYSIWYG / document-style editing behaviour
• Work with structured, metadata-rich data models and application state
• Build and support dashboards, forms, and supporting UI systems
• Integrate frontend components with backend REST APIs and webhooks
• Handle advanced UI interactions including keyboard navigation, selection, inline editing, and validation
• Collaborate on architecture, UX iteration, and performance considerations
• Contribute to clean, maintainable code and light technical documentation

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong, hands-on experience building applications with React
• Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
• Experience building complex, stateful UIs beyond basic websites or marketing pages
• Experience consuming REST APIs and working with API-driven systems
• Ability to estimate effort and work within scoped deliverables
• Familiarity with asynchronous data flows, including webhook-driven updates
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small technical team
• Experience working on production systems

Nice-to-Have Experience

• Experience implementing advanced WYSIWYG, editor-like, or document-centric interfaces
• Accessibility-focused UI development
• Performance optimization for large or complex DOM trees
• Experience with NextJS and RTK Query frameworks
• Familiarity with backend technologies such as Python and Django
• Experience working on text-heavy, media-adjacent, or data-dense applications

Engagement Structure

This role may be structured as either:

• A temporary contract employee, or
• An independent contractor engagement

Shortlisted candidates will receive additional detail about the project(s), along with a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Following review of the project details, candidates will be asked to provide either:

• An estimate of expected hours along with an hourly rate (CAD), or
• A flat-rate quote per project (available to independent contractors only)

• Must be based in Canada and legally eligible to work in Canada
• Individual developers only (no agencies or consultancies)
• Rate, hours, and engagement structure will be defined upfront
• Strong fit may lead to additional work in future phases
