About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our Commodities Technology team within the Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) division. This role is pivotal in supporting the software currency project, focusing on maintaining, upgrading, and ensuring the stability of legacy systems approaching end-of-life. The successful candidate will demonstrate a results-oriented mindset, technical proficiency, and a strong sense of ownership for system stability and compliance. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including infrastructure, security, database, and application teams—to analyze, upgrade, and remediate software components. Your responsibilities will include writing high-quality production code, designing automated testing frameworks, and refactoring legacy codebases as needed. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on critical capital markets systems, ensuring their robustness and compliance with evolving standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Java, and Enterprise Edition Java (J2EE) including Servlets, JDBC, EJB, JSP, JMS
- Proficiency with Spring Framework and Spring Boot
- Experience with Scala is a plus
- At least 3 years of experience in Unix/Linux shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python)
- Hands-on experience with message-oriented middleware such as JMS, Kafka, ActiveMQ, or RabbitMQ
- Strong background in database development with Oracle, Sybase, PL/SQL, or similar technologies
- Experience with enterprise application development and upgrade projects
- Knowledge of Web Services, with experience in Tomcat or WebLogic preferred
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, version control systems like Bitbucket and Jenkins
- Experience with in-memory data grid technologies such as Hazelcast
- Knowledge of Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field
Responsibilities
- Partner with peer engineers and cross-functional teams to maintain and upgrade software components, ensuring system stability and compliance
- Collaborate with system owners to understand end-of-life requirements, conduct gap analyses, and assess compliance needs
- Remediate code vulnerabilities by referencing code or libraries, producing detailed specifications, and implementing solutions
- Design and automate testing procedures, including functional, regression, and performance testing
- Refactor legacy codebases to improve performance, maintainability, and security
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings to coordinate tasks and share progress
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in software development and deployment processes
- Ensure adherence to security standards and best practices during system upgrades and maintenance
