The Team

The Experiential Learning (EL) Hub is one of six resources within the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. Through a collaborative approach, the Centre fosters a community dedicated to big thinking about curriculum, pedagogy and creative ways of developing inclusive teaching practices that enrich the student learning experience.

The EL Hub is a gathering place for ideas, knowledge creation, and skill-building. Driven by the values of equity, excellence, collaboration and impact, we support and provide resources for those interested in curating academically relevant experiential learning opportunities. As the primary support for the experiential learning community at Toronto Metropolitan University, we foster a culture of excellence and innovation in teaching, working to continually enhance student learning and community impact.

Under the umbrella of the Experiential Learning Hub, is the Live Actor Simulation (LAS) program. LAS works closely with faculty, staff and external clients to build and deliver live, performance-based simulations that target specific learning objectives, enhance professional development and support a variety of performance assessment models. In addition to providing authentic, interactive and real-time learning, the live actor simulation process of immediate, behaviour-based feedback provides a personal and professionally relevant opportunity for learners to internalize knowledge and skills that they are subsequently able to apply to their professional careers.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and creative thinker to join our team as a Simulation Writer and Trainer. In this role you will support the planning, implementation, and promotion of Live Actor Simulation activities across Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). You will also be responsible for creating and supporting the delivery of simulation-based experiences that develop students’ and external clients’ interpersonal and professional skills needed for personal and professional success.

Responsibilities

• Support faculty and external clients with simulation needs by conducting consultations to assess learning requirements, define objectives, and identify appropriate simulations from the LAS catalogue.
• Develop new simulation scenarios or adapt existing ones when client needs cannot be met through the current LAS catalogue, including conducting research, consulting with subject matter experts, and creating detailed character backgrounds.
• Lead the scheduling, casting, training, and performance oversight of simulators (actors) for assigned simulations, providing feedback and professional development to ensure established simulation quality standards are met.
• Collaborate with LAS team members to co-develop and co-deliver workshops that address the training and development needs of faculty, clients, and simulators.
• Contribute to the annual review of the LAS simulator roster and participate in simulator interviews in collaboration with other Live Actor Simulation (LAS) team members.
  
  

Qualifications

To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

• Completion of a Bachelor’s degree program in Education, Theatre and Drama Studies, English Literature, Professional Communication, or a related field, with coursework or academic preparation focused on creative writing, communication, instructional content development,and/or simulation scenario design.
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in education, theatre, communication, professional development, or live-actor simulation programs.
• Demonstrated experience in experiential learning/education, including the application of pedagogy and adult learning principles, and/or previous experience in simulation scenario desig.
• Training and development experience, along with familiarity with the principles of adult learning theory as applied to simulation-based education and training.
• Storytelling and creative writing skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communications skills.
• Exceptional facilitation and presentation skills.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
• Proficiency with Google Workspace (i.e. Gmail, Calendar, Meets, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
