About The Role

The Senior Staff Software Engineer at Capital One Canada is a high-level technical leadership position that plays a pivotal role in designing and implementing enterprise-scale solutions. This role is equivalent to a senior manager level but does not include direct reports. The successful candidate will be responsible for advanced enterprise solutions architecture design, technical system design, and hands-on software development. The position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions aligned with business objectives.

As a key contributor within the Software Studio, you will oversee the creation of high-level design documents, evaluate new technologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural standards and security protocols are maintained. Your expertise will directly influence the technical direction of projects, ensuring they are aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of Capital One Canada’s technology landscape by providing guidance, mentorship, and strategic insights to various stakeholders.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and industry experience. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required, along with at least 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture or technology solution design. Proven experience of at least 2 years in creating solutions architectures within public cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud is essential.

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree in relevant fields, certifications in TOGAF, AWS, or similar frameworks, and extensive experience in large or complex organizational settings. Candidates should have a strong background in designing scalable, decoupled systems in regulated environments, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence technology initiatives at an executive level. Certifications like AWS Solution Architect-Associate or Cloud Practitioner are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, secure, and enterprise-grade architecture solutions that support Capital One Canada’s business objectives.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
• Create, review, and maintain Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to ensure clarity and consistency across projects.
• Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across various levels to promote innovative technology strategies that deliver measurable business value.
• Mentor and guide engineering teams on architectural best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
