Royal York Property Management is hiring a Controller to lead and strengthen our day-to-day accounting operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows how to bring structure, accountability, and financial discipline to a high-volume business. We are looking for a Controller who can oversee core accounting operations, improve internal controls, support accurate reporting, and act as the key internal link between our finance team, external accounting firm, and leadership.

Our business processes a large volume of monthly transactions across recurring owner payments, leasing revenue, contractor/vendor payouts, and internal operating expenses. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, strong with process, and comfortable owning the accounting function in a fast-moving environment.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll coordination, and payment workflows
• Ensure monthly financial records are accurate, complete, and properly reconciled
• Own and improve the month-end close process
• Build and maintain strong internal controls, approval workflows, and financial procedures
• Review cash flow activity and help ensure funds are managed properly across the business
• Monitor collections, outgoing payments, account reconciliations, and revenue tracking
• Work closely with the external accounting firm to support clean reporting, compliance, and year-end preparation
• Support leadership with reliable financial reports, summaries, and operational insight
• Identify process gaps, reporting inconsistencies, and areas for stronger financial discipline
• Help create better structure across the finance function as the company continues to scale
• Supervise and coordinate the internal team members handling AR, AP, and payment-related responsibilities
• Work alongside leadership and a fractional CFO to ensure strong financial visibility and accountability

What We’re Looking For

• 5–8+ years of accounting or finance experience
• Prior experience in a Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior accounting leadership role
• Strong experience overseeing AR, AP, reconciliations, and month-end close
• Experience in a business with high monthly transaction volume
• Strong understanding of financial controls, reporting accuracy, and accounting processes
• Experience working with external accountants or accounting firms
• Strong leadership, organization, and follow-through
• Ability to spot issues, tighten processes, and keep the accounting function running cleanly
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, operationally heavy business
• CPA or progress toward CPA is an asset, but not required for the right candidate
• Experience in property management, real estate, recurring-revenue businesses, or multi-entity service businesses is a strong asset

• Month-end closes become more organized, timely, and reliable
• AR, AP, payroll/payment workflows, and reconciliations are tightly controlled
• Leadership receives cleaner, more dependable financial information
• The finance function becomes more structured, accountable, and scalable
• The external accounting firm and fractional CFO are supported by a strong internal operator who owns the day-to-day accounting environment
