About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our International Card Tech team in Toronto, Canada. This role is pivotal in developing and enhancing our customer management capabilities for international cardholders. You will work on transitioning our systems from an account-centric to a customer-centric decision-making model, enabling more personalized and efficient services. This is a senior technical position that emphasizes hands-on development, architectural design, and technical leadership without direct reports. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable, fault-tolerant applications and contribute to the overall technical strategy of the organization.
As part of your responsibilities, you will engage in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance. You will have opportunities to mentor junior team members, share technical expertise through workshops and forums, and participate in innovative projects that directly impact millions of international card customers. Our technology stack includes cloud-native solutions, microservices, RESTful APIs, and open source frameworks, providing a stimulating environment for technical excellence and continuous learning.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of comprehensive software development experience, with proficiency in both front-end and back-end technologies. You should have extensive hands-on experience with programming languages such as JavaScript, Java, Angular/TypeScript, Python, React, or Go, along with a solid understanding of application and data architecture. Cloud experience, particularly with AWS, is highly preferred, although expertise in other cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud is also valuable. Additionally, candidates should have experience mentoring junior developers and guiding technical stakeholders. A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is required, with advanced certifications or additional education considered a plus.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Lead technical design and development of multi-platform, fault-tolerant application systems, ensuring scalability and security.
- Utilize diverse programming languages including JavaScript, Java, Python, Angular/TypeScript, React, and Go to build robust features.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of developer experience by identifying gaps in existing frameworks and tools, and actively participating in their enhancement.
- Establish and promote engineering best practices, including code review standards and coding guidelines.
- Define and uphold technical standards, providing expert support to ensure adherence to best practices.
- Own architectural decisions, applying high-level design principles, and contributing to architecture documentation.
- Mentor junior and intermediate associates, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.
- Engage with stakeholders to explain complex technical challenges and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Stay abreast of evolving technologies and incorporate innovative solutions to improve system performance and reliability.
