The current office is in Saanich. In May 2026, Mann Group will move all our subsidiary companies into their new 20,000 ft2 building in Langford to fit the growing team

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Controller plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial integrity and operational accountability of Mann Operations Group (MOG). This position oversees the full accounting cycle, internal controls, and compliance with Canadian GAAP and applicable legislation across multiple business units. With thousands of completed civil construction projects, the organization requires strong financial discipline to support both day to day operations and continued growth.

The Controller reports to the CFO and works closely with the Corporate Controller, and executive team to deliver accurate financial information, interpret data for strategic decision making, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the finance function. This work will support effective project performance, informed investment decisions and long-term planning as MOG continues to expand its service offerings and subsidiary operations across Vancouver Island.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Lead and coordinate the monthly and annual close processes.
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of accurate financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Manage all external audit and year-end processes, ensuring full transparency and cooperation.
• Maintain compliance with all municipal, provincial, and federal reporting requirements, including tax filings, insurance, and WCB.
• Maintain secure and organized financial record retention in compliance with legal standards.

Financial Planning & Analysis

• Contribute to the FP&A process, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Deliver comprehensive monthly financial packages to the CFO and executive team.
• Develop and monitor internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
• Build and enhance executive dashboards, budget tools, and financial reporting solutions to improve decision-making.

Operational Finance

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including billing, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and purchasing.
• Manage corporate bank accounts, credit facilities, and cash-flow forecasting.
• Support the CFO in evaluating banking relationships and financing options.
• Collaborate with IT and system vendors to maintain and optimize financial systems.
• Document and process all shareholder and investor transactions accurately and promptly.

Leadership

• Provide direction, coaching, and regular performance feedback to the accounting team.
• Conduct recurring one-on-ones and annual performance reviews with all direct reports.
• Model MOG’s values of safety, integrity, and collaboration.
• Advise the executive team on emerging financial and operational risks based on data-driven insights.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.
• CPA designation is required.

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior accounting or Controller capacity.
• At least 3 years of people-management experience with demonstrated success in coaching and performance development.
• Experience within civil construction, engineering, or related industries is preferred.

Technical Skills

• In-depth knowledge of Canadian GAAP, internal-control frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong analytical capability to interpret complex financial data and translate insights into business recommendations.
• Proven ability to identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI or other data-visualization tools is a strong asset.
• Experience in consolidation is an asset.
• Comfortable working in Mac OS, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace; familiarity with Eclipse, Heavy Jobs, and Heavy Bid is an advantage.
