1 General description

The Biomedical Software Test Engineer is a vital role towards providing high quality solutions for our customers and works on our medical-grade data analysis pipelines and modules. They are responsible for designing and implementing our test automation process, tools, and code. They assess product requirements, identify critical functionality, and create a thorough and efficient testing strategy. Through systematically verifying requirements across our data pipelines and modules, they improve our products. They are also responsible to assist the product owner to translate product requirements into actionable and testable user stories, sprint goals, and release plans where needed.

2 Responsibilities / accountability

Testing responsibilities:

• Design and implement automated testing processes in Python
• Design and implement test cases and test frameworks
• Set up and implement a structured testing methodology for data analysis pipelines and modules, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility
• Advocate for test data management and enforcing best practices, including versioning, and governance
• Transform product requirements into thorough automated testing strategies
• Participate in risk analysis as input towards the test strategy, to ensure sufficient coverage for critical functionality
• Optimize the testing setup to provide fast feedback
• Perform manual tests while also focusing on automating as much as possible
• Writing high-quality code, documentation and tests
• Providing feedback to team members and exchanging best practices

Functional responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product owners and research team to refine acceptance criteria
• Analyze product behavior and identify functional gaps or inconsistencies
• Mentor and coach team members at all levels of the organization, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
• Serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment on product goals, and priorities, and between different stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, including MDR and FDA regulations, as well as stringent security measures throughout the product development lifecycle.

3 Required competencies

Education:

• BSc/MSc degree in (life)(computer) sciences, informatics, (bio)(medical) engineering or equivalent by experience.

Knowledge and experience:

• Experience in a software testing or software engineering role
• Experience with (testing of) data analysis pipelines and modules
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Selenium or RobotFramework
• Knowledge of software testing methodologies
• Experience with Python
• Experience with version control systems (git)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts and build consensus with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in problem-solving and troubleshooting, with a knack for identifying and addressing challenges proactively.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and requirements in a fast-paced environment.

Skills and abilities:

• Communicative in English, both written and spoken

4 Preferred competencies

• Experience with and good understanding of the regulatory requirements and standards relevant to the development of Software as a Medical Device (SAMD) products (ISO13485, ISO27001).
• Experience working within a MedTech (ISO 13485 certified) or Health Tech environment
• Experience with biomedical algorithms
• Experience with AWS
• Experience with GitLab
• Problem-solving mindset
• Able to work both independently and collaboratively
• Able to prioritize tasks effectively
