The successful candidate will have experience of teaching on Travel and Tourism courses and ideally experience of working within the travel and hospitality industry. As well as your relevant industrial experience and current knowledge, you will have an appropriate subject qualification to degree or equivalent. You will also hold or be studying for a relevant teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE or equivalent).

The main duties of the post holder are:

• To teach and assess on courses including the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Travel and Tourism and the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma's in Travel
• Play an active role in the marketing of the College and the Department through such activities as open days and through liaison with local employers and schools.
• Engage in core duties including preparation, marking, monitoring student progress, preparing reports, setting and marking of examination papers, developing and preparing flexible learning materials.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Has a relevant teaching qualification (PGCE (PCET) or equivalent) or willingness to train for one.
• Has experience of teaching on Travel and Tourism courses.
• Ideally has relevant teaching experience within the FE sector.

The Role

Tourism has both positive and negative economic, sociocultural, and environmental impacts on destinations and sustainable tourism can be defined as a development approach to maximize positive and minimize negative impacts. The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been widely acknowledged to serve this purpose and as a guiding framework for sustainable tourism. Achieving this purpose needs an innovative and efficient ecosystem. Moreover, tourism is a complex system with several stakeholders involved with different levels of power, interests and desires. Thus, managing the interests and conflicts of these stakeholders needs an effective ecosystem. SDG 17 highlights the importance of partnership between different stakeholders to achieve other SDGs and several studies in tourism has stressed the same. However, effective partnership can be one of the main components of this ecosystem, but not all. In the wider domain of sustainable development, this ecosystem has been indicated as governance or good governance, and several studies is tourism emphasized the importance of governance to achieve sustainable tourism. However, there is lack of understanding about the components, structure and enablers of tourism governance which facilitate achievement of sustainable tourism in destinations. Therefore, this project aims to develop an effective and efficient governance ecosystem for tourism destinations by involving all key stakeholders using a participatory approach to achieve sustainable tourism.

The School is seeking to appoint a top researcher to work alongside an esteemed Vice Chancellor’s Professorial Research Fellow to undertake a participatory research approach to achieve a sustainable governance ecosystem for destinations. Therefore, the candidate should be familiar with this approach and ready/interested to be involved in this type of research. The candidate will have a role in supervising HDR students involved in different aspects of the project. Passion for quality research is a key requirement. Successful candidates must be willing to collaborate on other related research projects.

• Salary: £26,808 per annum - £34,107 per annum (Actual Salary £19,148 per annum - £24,362 per annum )

The South Wales Business School (SWBS) in the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries wishes to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Hotel, Hospitality and Events. This full-time, permanent post is based at the Newport Campus of the University.

You will join a growing Hotel, Hospitality and Events team and be expected to contribute to our flagship hotel degree, the BA Hotel and Hospitality Management, run with the 5-star Celtic Manor Resort. This course attracts students from across the UK and worldwide.

We are seeking a colleague who shares our passion for educating undergraduates to develop the applied knowledge and skills to operate as valued hospitality professionals. Our curriculum is informed by the University’s commitment to maximising graduate success, including:

A distinctive curriculum that instils a professional identity and a reputation for competence and skills
Extended and enhanced professional workplace learning
Problem and challenge-based learning with a focus on leadership, sustainability, and high-quality customer service

You will be part of a team which takes research-led teaching seriously. Making sure our courses are always contemporary and our students are ready for the jobs of today and tomorrow. You will have opportunities to influence curriculum development in Hotel, Hospitality and Events Leadership.
