The Role and the Department
The post holder will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day technical functions and operations in the Physics Department, providing technical and engineering related assistance throughout a large, busy and diverse selection of research laboratories, thereby ensuring smooth and efficient operation throughout the area.
The post holder will be required to exercise an acquired depth of knowledge and experience to provide flexible, specialist technical support as part of a technical team supporting all research and final year undergraduate activities conducted within the Department of Physics. Primarily servicing the needs of research, while supporting other areas of the Department as and when required, providing all stakeholders with an expert level of technical service and guidance.

The Cornell Stable Isotope Laboratory (COIL) is a world class analytical facility housed in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. The primary mission of COIL is to support Cornell researchers and students through sample preparation and analyses of stable light isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, and hydrogen and the development of methodologies related to the analysis of stable isotopes. Primary Responsibilities

Responsibities:
1. Conduct cutting-edge research in machine learning, computer vision or natural language processing.
2. Support and incubate products with machine learning, especially state-of-the-art AIGC techniques such as GPT, Stable Diffusion, etc.
Qualifications
1. Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other relevant majors.
2. Rich research experience in but not limited to the following areas (as the first author of published papers at CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, TPAMI, IJCV, ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, etc.)
- Image/video search, classification, and recognition
- Object detection, segmentation, and tracking
- Representation learning (multi-modality, pre-training, vision transformer, etc.)
- OCR
- Image/video/multimodal generative models
- Large language models

As an Associate Director, Head BPA Instrumentation R&D , you will provide financial leadership, strategic direction, and decision-making support to Alcon’s Instrumentation R&D organization globally, aimed at advancing innovation and increasing shareholder return. You will create new value by influencing the allocation of resources, supporting strategy setting and its implementation, ensuring integrity and compliance of financial information, strengthening controls, driving efficiencies in processes and investments, providing recommendations into the strategic portfolio prioritization as well as BD&L assets under consideration, leads forecasting, budgeting, performance management, and resource re-allocation decisions. The scope of responsibility includes 5 R&D sites (Lake Forrest, Goleta, Erlangen, Teltow, and Schaffhausen), $150M OPEX, $15 CAPEX, 25 projects per year, and 370 FTEs across all sites.
