We are looking for Trade Mark Administrators/Paralegals to be involved in the day-to-day activities of our busy trade marks and designs practice.
We are open-minded to the person's background. If you would enjoy working with fun, bright colleagues that have your back along with famous brands, please reach out if you’re a:
- trade mark paralegal (senior or junior, with or without the CITMA Paralegal qualification)
- work in patent records or legal/contract admin and looking for a change; or
- simply great with spreadsheets and databases with good English and an eye for detail; or
- a law graduate looking for your first role.
Someone with specific experience with trade marks and designs – ideally with the CITMA Paralegal qualification - would be of interest. Equally, while experience is great, where that’s absent, we’ll provide the support and training. We're not recruiting for one set role.
You will support internal colleagues as well as external clients and suppliers. You should be comfortable working in a client facing role so accurate written and verbal English language skills are critical.
The ability to work autonomously, proactively and part of a team, producing high quality work is also important.
Stobbs have proprietary systems to help them manage IP rights and so an interest in IT systems, along with general IT skills (e.g. Word and Excel) will be useful.
Trade mark formalities and paralegal work isn't for everyone. It's volume based, deadline heavy and requires good organisation.
If you're a law graduate, these roles are in legal administration but are not particularly 'legal'. We're managing legal rights but that process doesn't require a huge understanding of the law. Not that an understanding of the law would be a bad thing, but this may not be the role the majority of law graduates have in mind and these are not roles to be fast tracked into trainee roles. The job won't be drafting legal documents, it won't be preparing bundles for court, etc.
They will also cover other team members when they are absent or when someone may be particularly crazily busy. We dig in together at these times.
Firm culture is important at Stobbs - friendly, social, approachable and where we look after each other. We regularly provide our own social and professional events. We manage the rights of some fantastic clients - obviously that means our advice has to be legally sound, but it's also about it being business savvy. We have high standards but learn from our mistakes. We’re not internally competitive (well, except when it comes to sports and quizzes!). We're certainly not run with an iron fist; we want our people to bring their whole selves to work, wanting to perform well and to feel comfortable asking questions and learning, and helping us continue to improve and be the best we can be.
Our head office is located to the north of Cambridge, with an office in central London, and we may have opportunities in both offices. We are trying to strike a good balance of supporting people to work flexibly while delivering for our clients and making Stobbs an attractive place to work. Our current hybrid working policy is a minimum requirement of two days in the office, encouraging people in more if possible. You would be expected to be based in the office full-time during the first six-months.
Don't meet any of the requirements?
Some people are less likely to apply for job unless they feel they can tick every requirement. This can be more acute among minority backgrounds. We're proud of our inclusive workplace where you can be your authentic self, so if you’re excited about this role but you don't feel you don't align perfectly with all the requirements, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
